It takes less than 5 minutes to get a VM up and running in VMWare ESXi 5.1 via the VSphere console. Not only does this allow for fast provisioning of machines and whole environments but it also supports Windows, Linux and a myriad of other OSs. In this video I show a quick live demo of how to create a virtual machine configuring the cpu, RAM, network and hard disk. With an ISO image located on a local data store, I then show how to mount the CentOS image and boot the virtual machine from it. For more info and videos like this please check out my channel and site! 🤍
This guide is part of the 'Introduction to VMware ESXi 5.1' which can be found at 🤍 This tutorial looks at creating your first VM (Virtual Machine) on your new ESXi Host. This guide is part of the 'Introduction to VMware ESXi 5.1' which can be found at 🤍 This short guide is the start of series that introduces you to VMware and its most common freely available product ESXi Hypervisor. This will also show you how to use the Vsphere to take control and manage your VMS. Create VMs and Datastore will be in further tutorials.
🤍 - In this video we discuss and demonstrate how VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1 can be installed using the Interactive Installer. Interactive installations are recommended for small deployments of fewer than five hosts. You boot the installer from a CD or DVD, from a bootable USB device, or by PXE booting the installer from a location on the network, then follow the prompts in the installation wizard to install ESXi to disk. In a typical interactive installation, you boot the ESXi installer and respond to the installer prompts to install ESXi to the local host disk. The installer reformats and partitions the target disk and installs the ESXi boot image. If you have not installed ESXi on the target disk before, all data located on the drive is overwritten, including hardware vendor partitions, operating system partitions, and associated data. To ensure that you do not lose any data, migrate the data to another machine before you install ESXi. If you are installing ESXi on a disk that contains a previous installation of ESXi or ESX, or a VMFS datastore, the installer provides you with options for upgrading For additional information, see the vSphere Installation and Setup Guide at 🤍 Note: For best viewing results, ensure that the 720p HD option is selected and view in full screen mode.
This guide is part of the 'Introduction to VMware ESXi 5.1' which can be found at 🤍 This tutorial looks at adding Local Storage and then goes on to adding your first datastore on the local storage or iSCSI storage if you added that in the previous tutorial.

Mac Mini 3.1 (2009) is not supported well by ESXi although model 2010 and after is widely known compatible with ESXi. I got one of my Mac Mini 3.1 (2009) to try to install ESXi and it was successful although I have tuned some storage adapter PCI ID through SSH. I have tried all those three version 5.1/5.5/6.0 ESXi and all are fine with the procedures recorded in the video. If you have Mac Mini 2009 model, now you can turn it into one of your ESXi server into your home lab. Let me know if you have any question on it.
