Part 1 (of 2) of a video documenting Xingguo shan ge (兴国山歌, literally "Xingguo mountain songs"), a tradition of folk singing of the Hakka (客家) people of Xingguo County (兴国县), northern Ganzhou (赣州市), south-central Jiangxi province, eastern China, performed by two men, each of whom accompanies himself with a small gong. The title of the story being performed is "Xinggang - Jieliang" 《行罡·解粮》. The exact locations and dates of filming, are, unfortunately, unknown. The singers' names are as follows: ● Chen Zhifang (陈志芳) ● Zhang Jigui (张继贵) Probably filmed in Xingguo County (兴国县), northern Ganzhou (赣州市), south-central Jiangxi province, eastern China, c. May 11, 2017. Xingguo shan ge, which is widely circulated and enduring, has a long history, and was often sung to pass the time while working in the fields and forests. It is performed in a wide variety of formats, including solo, duo, and chorus. Its lyrics, which are often at least partly extemporized, cover a wide variety of content including historical stories; prayers to ward off disasters and plague; good wishes for weddings, funerals, and birthdays; serving tea; or teasing between lovers. Love songs in particular make extensive use of metaphor, puns, and other techniques, and are lighthearted and full of fun. Xingguo shan ge singers may even sing about current events, including southern Jiangxi's revolutionary history. Xingguo shan ge is rooted in the deep soil of Hakka culture, covering all aspects of Hakka life and full of rich Hakka cultural information. In a sense, the Xingguo shan ge is a historical pictorial scroll in which Hakka people live and thrive. In 2006 the tradition of Xingguo shan ge, centering on Xingguo County, Ganzhou, Jiangxi province, was included in the First Batch of 518 traditions inscribed in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China (第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录) by China's Ministry of Culture (中华人民共和国文化部, known since March 2018 as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 中华人民共和国文化和旅游部). The sub-agencies responsible for maintaining these lists, both under the aegis of the aforementioned ministry, are the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage (文化部非物质文化遗产司) and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center (中国非物质文化遗产保护中心, CICHPC). Additionally, in 2007 the tradition of Xingguo shan ge, centering on Xingguo County, Ganzhou, Jiangxi province, was included in the First Batch of the Jiangxi Province Province-Level Intangible Cultural Heritage List (江西省第一批省级非物质文化遗产名录). The 800-metre (2,600-foot) experimental Red Rail in southern China’s Xingguo county, Jiangxi province, used powerful magnets rich in rare earth elements to produce a constantly repelling force strong enough to lift a train with 88 passengers in the air. Unlike most existing maglev lines, the suspended rail operates about 10 metres above the ground. There is no physical contact with the rail as the train moves underneath the rail at a speed of 80km/h (50mph).
