A team in the University’s Centre for Human Brain Health investigated the link between this mental fog and inflammation – the body’s response to illness. In a study published in Neuroimage, they show that inflammation appears to have a particular negative impact on the brain’s readiness to reach and maintain an alert state.

Do you experience brain fog, headaches, migraine, or just general heaviness and unclarity in your brain? It might sound counterintuitive, but lightly shaking your brain side to side can help clear blockages and release tension that's building up inside of your brain. TRY IT! As you shake, also gently breathe out stuffiness that you feel in your brain. Repeat this exercise for about 5 minutes, and you'll notice a difference! 😁 🔔SUBSCRIBE for weekly videos (and click the bell!) ► 🤍 👕Brain Education TV Merch ► 🤍 ADDITIONAL RESOURCES FOR THIS VIDEO Experience an IN-PERSON Brain Education yoga class at ► 🤍 Experience an ONLINE Brain Education yoga class at ► 🤍 WHAT IS BRAIN EDUCATION TV? Brain Education TV provides mental health and mental wellness videos to help young adults with loneliness, depression, and anxiety. The foundation of our content comes from Brain Education, an academic study from South Korea that stems from over 40 years of research and application and has been practiced by millions around the world. WHY WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH… We suffered from high-functioning loneliness and depression our whole lives. We lived different lives in different states, but when we met, we realized we were struggling with common issues that reflected an important problem in our young adult generation. We didn’t know who we were, what we were passionate about, what we should live for, and what direction our lives were “supposed” to go. We spent a lot of time wandering in search of that magical ‘answer’ that will solve all problems (like I’m sure most of you are doing right now), and yet the further we searched outside, the more pronounced the emptiness inside of us felt. Millions of people suffer silently from mental health related issues. Yet our society still places taboos around openly talking about relevant mental health topics like loneliness, depression, and anxiety. As a result, our young adults don’t know how to talk about it constructively, where to turn to, or what resources they have to combat this real-life threat to their wellbeing. We credit Brain Education for giving us the courage to overcome our own mental health struggles and create the lives we want...and now we hope you can too through the videos we share on this channel. Short-term memory loss, confusion and difficulty concentrating are all things those suffering from "brain fog" may experience after recovering from COVID-19. While there's no one-size-fits-all treatment that can cure these cognitive difficulties, there are some rehabilitation strategies that help retrain the brain to work on the areas that are most challenging. Dr. Schultz stresses that any cognitive symptoms people may be experiencing that are affecting their day-to-day life — whether related to long COVID-19 or not — should be addressed. For the safety of its patients, staff and visitors, Mayo Clinic has strict masking policies in place. Anyone shown without a mask was recorded prior to COVID-19 or recorded in an area not designated for patient care, where social distancing and other safety protocols were followed. Sabina Brennan, PhD, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, provides an overview of a broad range of underlying health conditions, medications and lifestyle factors that can cause brain fog. Brain fog is a term used to describe a collection of symptoms that affect executive and cognitive function, such as memory issues, confusion, or mental fatigue. Brain fog can be an indication of underlying health conditions, for example, autoimmune diseases, neurological disorders, or chronic health conditions such as fibromyalgia. It is also often associated with many medications and treatments including antidepressants and chemotherapy. Furthermore, a number of lifestyle factors can cause brain fog such as stress, a lack of sleep, poor diet and low physical activity. This interview took place at the 35th European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) Congress 2022 in Vienna, Austria. "Long COVID" affects up to a third of people infected by coronavirus. One common complaint from long haulers is chronic fatigue and lingering brain fog. "I just tried to fight through it, and there wasn't any fighting through it," said Jim Eggleston, 69, who is learning to listen to his body. Eggleston has Type 2 diabetes. In the last two years, he has been diligent about nutrition and exercise, which has helped him to lose 38 pounds. His heart, lung and kidney function are all intact, he said, according to his doctors. "Up until January, I was feeling fantastic," Eggleston said. But January was when Jim tested positive for COVID19. FULL STORY: 🤍

This can be things like losing your train of thought mid-sentence, forgetting why you entered a room, or struggling to remember a friend’s name. Many of us have been feeling brain fog during the COVID-19 pandemic, but there are ways to cope with that feeling, which begins when you understand cognitive load theory.
Fatigue and what's being called "brain fog" are turning out to be some of the most common issues for long-hauler patients recovering from COVID-19. The National Institutes of Health calls these and other symptoms, which can last for several months, post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2, or PASC. Those suffering from brain fog may experience short-term memory loss, confusion, difficulty concentrating, or just feeling different than they did before they had COVID-19, even if it was a mild case of the infection. And Dr. Billie Schultz, a Mayo Clinic physical medicine and rehabilitation expert, says, though older patients more often to have these symptoms more often, younger people are also showing up with brain fog. In this Mayo Clinic Q&A podcast, Dr. Schultz says brain fog seems to be more inflammatory than infection, but there are more questions than answers about this neurological concern. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to develop rehabilitation programs to help patients recover. For the safety of its patients, staff and visitors, Mayo Clinic has strict masking policies in place. Anyone shown without a mask was recorded prior to COVID-19 or recorded in an area not designated for patient care, where social distancing and other safety protocols were followed. Many of us have experienced an inability to sustain our train of thought, difficulty focusing, the feeling like you’re living in a daze, and other types of brain fog. So what causes brain fog? The key insight is that your brain is not just some object sitting on the top of your shoulders. Your brain is an organ that’s connected to everything else happening in your body. And fixing your brain starts with fixing your body. When it comes to brain fog, that usually means attending to your gut health. In this episode, Dr. Hyman sits down with Dr. Todd LePine to discuss the Functional Medicine approach to treating brain fog. They explain why brain fog is so inextricably linked to gut health and how brain fog can be triggered by a range of things from diet to allergies to autoimmune conditions to environmental toxins and much, much more. Dr. LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. LePine’s focus at The UltraWellness Center is to help his patients achieve optimal health and vitality by restoring the natural balance to both the mind and the body. His areas of interest include optimal aging, bio-detoxification, functional gastrointestinal health, systemic inflammation, autoimmune disorders and the neurobiology of mood and cognitive disorders. Dr. LePine teaches around the world, and has given lectures to doctors and patients at American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), Age Management Medicine Group (AMMG), the University of Miami Integrative Medicine Conference, The Kripalu Center in Lenox, MA, and is on the faculty for American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). Dr. LePine is the head of the Scientific Advisory Board for Designs for Health and a consultant for Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory. He enjoys skiing, kayaking, hiking, camping and golfing in the beautiful Berkshires, and is a fitness enthusiast. This episode is sponsored by AirDoctor.
