We JUST launched our Limited Edition GN15 Modmat with this video! Grab one here: 🤍 This video explores GPU performance in Starfield using cards like the RTX 4090, RX 7900 XTX, GTX 1070, 1080 Ti, RTX 3080, RX 7600, and plenty more. We ran all of these through the game's early access in about 16 hours, so there's still plenty more to come for Starfield content. Our immediate plans include testing Arc (once it works currently, Intel Arc doesn't launch Starfield) and re-running numbers as new drivers and patches continue to roll-out. It's very likely this will make its way into permanent placement in our GPU games test suite to replace some older titles. Our testing for Bethesda's Starfield focuses on 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, with a mix of low, medium, high, and ultra benchmarks. We did not use any FSR or dynamic resolution scaling for our tests (and also disabled variable rate shading and Vsync); however, if there's interest, we might visit FSR tests specifically as we have more time to work on the game particularly after its official launch. This testing looks at the best GPUs for Starfield, max graphics settings, and more. One correction in here: The line item for the RX 7900 XT should show 20GB of memory, not 24GB. Overall, the XTX is primarily interesting for its price positioning versus the RTX 4080. AMD was never going to beat the RTX 4090 with a $1000 card, and it doesn't. But it's also not anywhere close in price. The RTX 4080 at $1200 (at the time of filming) is the real fight for AMD's RX 7900 XTX. Our testing today included power transients, thermals, noise, and gaming benchmarks (both rasterization and ray tracing). The transients, voltage regulation, noise, and thermals need some work, but that's all on the AMD reference design it'll be up to partners to pull weight to fix those aspects. This review and benchmark of the NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti looks at NVIDIA’s newest GPU vs. the RTX 4080 16GB, talks about why it would have been beyond disingenuous (and just straight-up lying) to call it an RTX 4080 “12GB” originally, and how NVIDIA is stuck in a hard place. The 4070 Ti is, and never will be, “3x better” than the RTX 3090 Ti despite NVIDIA’s misleading marketing to the contrary. It is hardly better than a 3080 and sometimes not even that and its positioning forces NVIDIA to choose between two bad options: One, they could call it a “4080” and implicitly state that there’s been no generational improvement between 80-class cards for 2 years while increasing the price by $200, or two, they could call it a “4070 Ti” and tell customers that the 70-class silicon is now 60% more expensive than 2 years ago. Neither option is good, and it was too late to fully cancel the product by the time they realized their mistakes.
