In this Cubase tutorial, Dom Sigalas looks at using sidechain in your music production for different effects. These include adding groove with the classic sidechain pumping effect and blending elements using the Frequency 2 EQ in sidechain mode. In Frequency 2 you can have up to eight sidechains on different EQ bands, setting the attack and release to your material for maintaining loop fullness. By sidechaining synth ARP to vocals with Frequency 2 EQ in MS mode, you can make room for vocals, giving them room to shine. You can use sidechaining to create rhythmic gated effects, creating a choppy or smooth sound with the Threshold and Hold function, on pads drones vocals guitars and more. If you use the Retrologue 2 sidechain input in Cubase 11, you can also radically change a sound using the Retrologue filter and arpeggiator. We hope you find this video entertaining and useful. In this FL Studio beginner tutorial, you'll learn how to set up proper sidechain compression in FL Studio 20. Sidechaining is an important mixing tool that allows you to control the overlap in the low end. By sidechaining your bass, for example, you can ensure that it doesn't overlap with your kick. That way you'll get a much cleaner mix. There are many ways to sidechain in FL Studio, but this is the old-school way with a trigger and a compressor. In this FL Studio beginner tutorial I will show you how to set up a sidechain trigger, and how to use the fruity limiter to duck the volume of the bass, using the kick pattern. Sidechaining can be used for a lot of things, but it's most commonly used for so called volume ducking. In modern EDM almost everything will tend to be sidechained. This allows the main kick to really punch through the mix, and prevents the low-end from sounding muddy or muffled. You can also sidechain other elements in your mix, like pads, leads, strings and so on. A good rule of thumb is to apply very aggressive sidechaining (volume ducking) on low-end elements like your bass, and then use less sidechaining as the frequency of the sound goes up. For example, you don't need to sidechain hats and other high-end elements. Vocals should typically also not be sidechained. Midrange elements on the other hand, like chords and such will typically be somewhat sidechained. This FL Studio beginner tutorial will teach you what sidechaining in music is, and why we use it. If you're a music producer then you need to know what sidechaining is, or sidechain compression which is the more correct term. Technically sidechaining can be used for a lot of stuff inside modern daws such as FL Studio, Ableton, Logic pro etc. That said, when people talk about sidechaining they are actually usually referring to sidechain compression, which is basically volume ducking, so that's what we're going to focus on in this video. When you mix and master music, you need to ensure that the kick and the bass don't interfere with each other. The tail of the kick will often be quite long, and when the bass comes in between the kicks these two elements will often overlap. Because the low-end is so powerful, this can often cause your mix to sound muddy or muffled. Sidechain compression can help avoid this by ensuring that the volume of the bass ducks to get out of the way of the kick. This ensures that your mix remains crisp and clean in the low-end as well. Mixing and mastering can be difficult, and it's important to be aware of the various mixing tools available to you as a music producer. Sidechaining is definitely among the most important tools available to you, so this is something you need to know if you want to succeed as a music producer.
